Jackson Hole

Jackson Hole is a ski resort on steroids. Nicknamed “The Big One”, it has big vertical and big skiable terrain, and has a gnarly reputation for steep challenging terrain that attracts many local and international hard-core skiers and snowboarders.

Jackson Hole Mountain resort is made up of two mountains. The Apres Vous Mountain is predominantly suited to intermediate skiing, and the base of this mountain tapers off into gentle beginner slopes. Rendezvous Mountain is what excites the proficient riders, and features steep chutes, bowls, couloirs and glades. The overall terrain is characterised by a consistent fall-line and 1,261 metres of vertical. In addition to the 2,500 acres (1,066 hectares) of inbound slopes, there is another 3,000 acres of gated backcountry terrain. Jackson Hole is also renowned for the powder skiing. With 11.7 metres of annual snowfall, there is an abundance of the white stuff that is light and fluffy.

Jackson Hole is in the Grand Teton mountain range in northwest Wyoming, USA. The ski resort is located at Teton Village which is about 19 kilometres northwest of the town of Jackson, and is five hours drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. There is an airport at Jackson, with domestic flights from many major US cities. Transfers to the resort take about 30 minutes via taxi or shuttle bus. Accommodation is available in either Teton Village or the town of Jackson, with a public bus system interconnecting the two.

Many friends have provided glowing reports about Jackson Hole and cite it as their favourite ski resort. The Powderhounds will be visiting Jackson Hole in early 2009 to rip up the powder that everyone raves about, and to be humbled by the challenging terrain.
